Why Partner

A rare combination: local, embedded, and rigorous

Kulea Hive is led by Sierra Leoneans who grew up with these challenges and have worked inside the systems meant to solve them. That changes what a partnership can achieve.

Local

Homegrown and embedded

Led from within the community and connected to the institutions that own lasting change, from Freetown City Council to national ministries.

Rigorous

Evidence first

We prove value in small, honest pilots and expand only on evidence, at explicit decision gates.

Responsible

Safeguarding first

The protection of children and their data is a precondition of our work, not an afterthought.

Lasting

A public good

We build knowledge and capability that outlast any single project, and share them openly.

Partnership Governance

Clear about who we work with, and how

We distinguish carefully between current partners, partnerships being formalised, and strategic alignment. We never blur the lines.

Current programme partners

  • Freetown City Council
  • Kroo Bay Municipal Primary School
  • Mabella Community Primary School
  • Fattah Rahman Municipal Junior Secondary School
  • Henry Fergusson Municipal Junior Secondary School
  • Murray Town Municipal Junior Secondary School

Freetown City Council partners with Kulea Hive across both programmes. The schools listed are our current ConnectEd and LEAP pilot sites.

Partnerships under finalisation

  • MBSSE
  • Teaching Service Commission

Conversations are under way, with partnership formalisation planned ahead of the 2026/27 academic year.

Strategic alignment

  • World Bank
  • UNICEF
  • Global Partnership for Education
  • Education Cannot Wait

Our programmes are designed to align with the priorities, evidence and strategic objectives of these institutions. This reflects strategic alignment, not formal partnership.

How We Partner

A way of working, not just a contract

Every Kulea Hive partnership follows the same principles, whichever programme it supports.

  1. Co-creation, not imposition

We shape the work with the people and institutions who make a school system run, rather than hand them something finished.

  2. Government ownership

Government owns the data and the decisions. We strengthen public institutions rather than bypass them.

  3. Separation of duties

Where we build platforms, the party that operates the system is never the party that owns or approves the data.

  4. Evidence-led and phased

We move in deliberate phases with decision gates, so investment stays proportionate to what has been shown.

Areas of Collaboration

Where a partnership can begin

We welcome partners in any of the following areas, across ConnectEd, LEAP, or the wider institution.

Invest

Funding and grants

Backing evidence-first pilots and their path to scale, with transparent claims and clear phases.

Evidence

Research and evaluation

Designing and running credible studies, including quasi-experimental evaluation.

Build

Technology and platform

Building responsible, low-bandwidth tools that work in real conditions.

System

Government and policy

Aligning municipal delivery with national priorities and policy.

Grow

Delivery and scale

Extending proven models to new schools, zones and, in time, regions.
